Saitama Institute of Technology announced that the "Automated Driving Technology Development Center" has achieved a total annual mileage of 2021 km in 2021 (April 4 to the end of March 2022).
In 2021, the annual mileage exceeded 2020 kilometers for the first time, reaching 2,970 km, which exceeded 3.7 kilometers, with a significant increase of about 1 times from 1 km in 11,229.This is equivalent to the distance traveled between Tokyo and Fukuoka five times, which means that the long-distance travel of the automatic driving bus at a university in Japan is one of the longest. In 5, research and development of two systems, a large bus (Rainbow II) and a microbus (Liesse II), was carried out, and the mileage increased by participating in various demonstration experiments in Korona-ka.
One of the reasons for the significant increase in mileage is the "Shibusawa Eiichi The Analects Village Circulation Bus" that travels with Fukaya Kanko Bus Co., Ltd. and goes around the land related to the main character of the NHK Taiga drama "Reach Beyond the Blue Sky".Obtained a green number for business use, and while carrying out continuous business operation for a long period from April 2021, 4 to January 1, 2022, the automatic operation section in the course of the route will be up to 1 km. expansion. The total mileage during the period amounts to 10km.
Furthermore, during the period from April 2021, 4 to March 1, 2022, we also cooperated with the automatic operation of local governments outside Saitama Prefecture.Participated in a demonstration experiment in Motegi Town, Tochigi Prefecture and Makuhari New City, Chiba City, and accumulated a running record of 3 km.
Saitama Institute of Technology has been developing an autonomous bus for the third year, and has participated in various demonstration experiments in 3 metropolitan area and 1 prefectures in the Kanto region, and has traveled on public roads in various regions.Going forward, we will continue to work on solving social implementation issues in each region toward the practical application of autonomous driving through industry-government-academia cooperation.
Saitama Institute of Technology's autonomous driving bus is based on the autonomous driving OS Autoware, and with the software SAIKO Car Ware originally developed by Saitama Institute of Technology, AI technology is actively adopted, aiming for automatic driving level 4 equivalent. Development is in progress. It is possible to switch between automatic driving by the system and driving by the driver instantly and smoothly, and it is possible to drive safely on general public roads at legal speed according to traffic conditions.
