When the Medical Clinical Research Matching Council summarized the results of matching trainees in 2017, it was found that the number of medical students who decided to train at local hospitals reached a record high of 58.9%.The ratio of training at university hospitals was 41.4%, down from 42.7% in the previous year and setting a new record low.The popularity of university hospitals among residents remains sluggish.

 The clinical training system, in which new doctors aim to improve their skills while receiving guidance in the medical field, determines the destination by matching the wishes of medical students with the recruitment conditions of hospitals.
According to the Medical Clinical Research Matching Council, there were 2017 applicants for training in 9,969, of which 9,726 registered their destinations.Of these, 9023 were unofficially decided. 78.8% matched up to the first choice and 1% matched up to the third choice.

 Of the unofficial candidates, 6 are 41.1% of medical students who have training destinations in the six prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, and Fukuoka.The remaining 3712 will be trained in 5311 other prefectures.The percentage of residents in metropolitan areas has decreased for the ninth consecutive year, and the number of cases of receiving training in rural areas is increasing.

 Of the university hospitals that accept residents, 34 facilities, including Showa University Hospital in Tokyo and Osaka City University Hospital in Osaka Prefecture, have secured the number of trainees.At eight facilities, including St. Marianna University School of Medicine in Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City Seibu Hospital, and Kansai Medical University Medical Center in Osaka Prefecture, all the residents recruited are from their own universities.

 However, university hospitals account for 41.4% of the residents who accept trainees, or 3,738.It is less popular than the previous year's 42.7%.
