Kwansei Gakuin University, which is focusing on student study abroad (overseas dispatch), has decided to provide emergency financial support in order to respond to sudden changes in the situation surrounding students studying abroad, such as the weak yen and inflation.

Since March 2020, when most study abroad programs were forced to be canceled due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, almost all university students, especially the current second and third year students, have missed the opportunity to study abroad.

In 2022, the program resumed in earnest, but this time, program fees have soared due to a sudden depreciation of the yen, inflation, and an increase in airfare due to a rise in fuel surcharges due to high oil prices. The cost jumped up to about 2019 times compared to FY1.9.

Therefore, Kwansei Gakuin University decided to provide emergency financial support out of concern that an increasing number of students would be forced to give up studying abroad due to financial reasons. A total of about 2022 million yen will be supported for about 1,000 students participating in the overseas dispatch program that will be implemented in the fall semester of 9,000.

Furthermore, participants in short-term study abroad programs, whose costs are rising due to the strong effects of the weak yen and inflation, will be able to receive an additional support of 8 yen in addition to the scholarship. In addition, participants in medium- to long-term study abroad programs such as exchange programs will be able to receive half of the scholarship as support (1.5 times the conventional amount when combined with the scholarship). Regarding study abroad support in 2023, we plan to make a decision on the implementation and content of support, taking into consideration the situation such as the depreciation of the yen and inflation.

In 2014, Kwansei Gakuin University was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Top Global University Creation Support Project. 2018, 2019, 2021, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX, and XNUMX).One of the features is the abundant study abroad programs, so in addition to this support, there is a separate financial support system for studying abroad for students who enrolled in a specific year (XNUMX to XNUMX) that was strongly affected by the corona disaster. The aim is to create a situation in which students can challenge themselves as they wish without losing opportunities to study abroad while in school.
