On March 2023, 3, an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding was signed regarding the establishment of an overseas branch campus of the University of Tsukuba in Malaysia.If all goes well, the school is expected to open in September 14.Through overseas expansion, we aim to provide more attractive university education to students from other countries, and to play a role as an institution of higher education that is open not only to Japan, but to the world.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Khaled and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Malaysia Katsuhiko Takahashi.Mr. Maki Tsujimura, Director of the Preparatory Office for the Malaysian Overseas Branch of the University of Tsukuba, was present as a witness at the signing ceremony.
Based on Article 58 of the Standards for Establishing Universities, the University of Tsukuba has submitted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology the establishment of an "Interdisciplinary College of Science and Design" with an enrollment capacity of 40 in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, as a faculty to be established overseas.
Malaysia is one of the major countries that make up ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), and is a pro-Japanese country known for its "Look East Policy," in which former Prime Minister Mahathir recommended learning from Japan.Many Malaysian students study at Japanese universities and find employment at Japanese companies.
