According to Fujita Health University, Professor Iizuka and his colleagues conducted nutritional evaluations on 20 underweight female faculty members aged between 39 and 44.As a result, it was found that the grip strength was weak and nutritional markers such as cholesterol and lymphocytes were low.
In addition, a secondary health checkup revealed that 2% had decreased blood prealbumin, 34% had decreased lymphocytes, and 32% had decreased cholesterol levels, suggesting deterioration in nutritional status.About 59% of the meals had low intakes of carbohydrates, including dietary fiber, iron, and calcium. Blood levels of vitamin B9 were also decreased in 20%, folic acid in 12%, and vitamin D in 14%.
Among faculty members at Fujita Health University, only 20% of men aged 39-4.5 were underweight, while 16.8% of women were underweight.However, being underweight can pose health risks such as infertility, osteoporosis, weakened immune systems and hypothermia.
In the future, Professor Iizuka and others suggest that it is necessary to educate young women who are about to become pregnant or give birth about the risks of being underweight, and to educate them about diets that supplement nutrients that tend to be deficient. .
