Tokyo Dental University Ichikawa General Hospital is recruiting mild Alzheimer's type dementia patients aged 65 to 85 who wish to participate in a clinical trial to confirm the therapeutic effect of rice bran on Alzheimer's type dementia. .

By 65, the number of people aged 2025 and over with dementia is expected to reach approximately 5 million, or approximately 1 in 700 elderly people.Dementia can be said to be a national disease, but Alzheimer's disease, which accounts for about 6% of the disease, has not yet been established as a cure, and the current situation is to prevent the progression of symptoms with drugs.New drugs have also been developed and some have become a hot topic (disease-modifying drugs), but it cannot be said that their effects are currently at a satisfactory level.

In recent years, Alzheimer's disease, which is also called "diabetes of the brain," is different from the pathology that has been believed until now. ing.In particular, nutritional therapy using rice bran ingredients is expected to be effective against Alzheimer's disease.

In animal experiments, it has already been reported that "the accumulation of amyloid beta in the brain, which is considered to be the causative agent of Alzheimer's disease, is reduced by 5-7% by eating rice bran ingredients." While it is spreading, rigorous medical verification tests have not been conducted, and research in dementia patients has been awaited.

Based on this background, in this study, as the world's first attempt, to verify the therapeutic effect of rice bran ingredients, mild Alzheimer's type dementia aged 65 to 85 years old who wish to participate in a randomized controlled clinical trial We are recruiting 320 patients with (with conditions such as taking the nootropic drug donepezil 5mg 1 tablet, confirmation required). The rice bran component can be taken as a supplement, and the participants are asked to visit the hospital about once every three months for about a year. This research proves the preventive and therapeutic effects of rice bran ingredients for dementia, and aims to establish a safe, secure, inexpensive, and medically-based treatment option called "the power of food."

The principal researcher, Mirai So, is a psychiatrist who has won the excellent presentation award three times at the annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology for his proof of the effectiveness of aromatherapy in improving cognitive function in the elderly. In addition, after receiving the review and approval of the accredited clinical research review committee, this research was conducted after obtaining permission from the hospital director of Tokyo Dental University Ichikawa General Hospital and submitting an implementation plan regarding research to the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare. (clinical study implementation plan number: jRCTs3).
