Regarding the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on New Year's Day, Kanazawa University established a disaster response headquarters meeting on January 1st and convened the meeting on January 1th. In addition to confirming the safety of students and faculty, the entire university is working to confirm and ensure the safety of the campus and strengthen student support in the wake of the earthquake.
For current students, in principle, remote classes will continue until January 1th (Thursday). In addition, at the one-stop service desk for current students, we will respond to students who are having difficulty studying due to disasters, etc., consultations regarding sudden changes in household finances, and any other concerns, concerns, or troubles that arise in student life. For students who are having difficulty or anxiety regarding information, such as difficulty in understanding Japanese news, etc., we will provide support through the One-Stop Service for Foreign Students.
Additionally, a support team consisting of certified psychologists and others will be established, centered around the Health Management Center, to provide counseling for students suffering from physical and mental health problems caused by accidents and disasters.
Regarding financial support, in addition to JASSO's temporary scholarship, we will implement our own emergency student support system, ``Kanazawa University Emergency Student Support Fund for Sudden Changes in Family Finances''. As a general rule, a loan of up to 10 yen (amount set in 5 yen increments) will be provided only once during the student's enrollment, with no restrictions on the use and no guarantor or interest. However, loans up to a maximum of 25 yen will be available only to students who have not paid their tuition fees for the semester in which they apply. Please check the Kanazawa University website for details such as eligible applicants, application period, and application method.
The university entrance common test (main test) on January 1th and 13th will be held at each university testing center in the Ishikawa Prefecture area as originally scheduled.
