The Nippon Institute of Technology's Department of Information and Media Engineering and Department of Data Science held an interactive art experience event for two days from December 2023rd to 12th, 23 at Cosmos Children's Center in Koshigaya City. This event has become an annual event, and 24 will be the second time the exhibition will be held, following the previous one in August. A total of 2 children and their guardians participated.
At the interactive art experience event, seven works created by the Physical Computing Workshop (in charge: Professor Hiroyuki Arai), which is mainly staffed by students from the Department of Information and Media Engineering and the Department of Data Science, were exhibited. The ``Physical Computing Studio'' combines video, audio, CG technology, and sensors that detect light and gravity to create works that change in various ways in response to people's movements, shapes, and voices.
The works on display this time include works that will make you feel like you are entering Ryugu Castle at the bottom of the sea, works that operate a robot arm with hand movements, a soccer game using button-type sensors, and works that make figures drawn in the air start to move. All works utilize cameras, sensors, and computers, allowing participants to use their bodies to operate and enjoy them. Children ranging from small children to those in the upper grades of elementary school, and even their parents, enjoyed the students' works together. In addition, there were many things that students could only understand after actually using them, which was a valuable experience for the students. Nippon Institute of Technology plans to continue implementing this activity in the future.
