Kihachiro Okura, the founder of Tokyo Keizai University, and Koki Watanabe, the founder of Kogakuin University, both supported the development of Japan during the Meiji period in the fields of politics and economics.Kihachiro Okura founded Okura Commercial School, which was the predecessor of Tokyo Keizai University, and was instrumental in establishing Kogei Gakko, the predecessor of Kogakuin University, as a committee member.On the other hand, Watanabe Koki accompanied the Iwakura Mission as an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and became the first president of the Imperial University (later the University of Tokyo). .
Both universities signed a comprehensive corporate partnership agreement in May 2020.With the aim of enhancing each other's expertise in education and research by making use of each other's characteristics and contributing to the development of society, cooperation in education and research, exchange between students in regular curricular and extracurricular activities, and training for faculty and staff・Collaborate through exchanges, etc.
This talk session will be held in a series of three, looking back on the history of both universities and sharing the present and future. At the first meeting on October 3th, Professor Emeritus Katsuhiko Murakami of Tokyo Keizai University gave a keynote speech titled "Kihachiro Okura and Hiroki Watanabe - Demonstrating the spirit of challenge together -" Approaching the real face and unraveling the foundation of the school.Next, Tokyo Keizai University President Hideo Okamoto and Kogakuin University President Osamu Goto will take the stage in a talk session titled "Tokyo Keizai University and Kogakuin University: Our Spirits and Our Future".
