Showa Women's University, which is working on distinctive career support, has started recruiting adult mentors in the spring of 2020 under one of its pillars, the "worker mentor system."
The "worker mentor system" is a system unique to Showa Women's University that encourages not only graduates but also women with social experience to support students.Adult mentors meet with students individually or in groups and serve as counselors regarding career plans and lifestyles after graduation. Many of the users of the system are in the second and third years of university, and it is an opportunity to imagine themselves in the future, such as life planning and employment, through the work experience of a working mentor before job hunting.
Adult mentors are selected by open recruitment, and the term of office is one term and two years (with a renewal system). We are recruiting every spring and autumn.Currently, about 1% of the mentor registrants are from people other than Showa Women's University, and about 2 women with diverse careers from a wide range of generations, mainly in their 8s and 30s.From 50 to March 300, when this system was established, a total of 2011 students have received mentor support.
While promoting the active participation of women is important for the sustainable growth of Japan, the number of students who have vague anxieties and impatience in the future and a sense of burden in balancing child-rearing is increasing recently. For students with such anxieties and worries, meeting adult females who will be role models through the adult mentor system will motivate them to go out into society, build their careers, and work in their own way.It is also popular with working mentors, who can give advice to students and give them a chance to return to their original intentions and improve their coaching skills.
Spring 2020 adult mentors will be recruited until March 3 for females with more than 3 years of working experience, regardless of whether they continue to work or of age, and will be selected by documents and interviews.
