Kyoto University and Osaka City University have signed a joint research agreement for the purpose of serum epidemiological research and drug development, which is approaching from the elucidation of the pathophysiology of the new coronavirus infection.

On June 2020, 6, Kyoto University (iPS Cell Research Institute, Hospital) and Osaka City University (Graduate School of Medicine) collaborated with Osaka Prefecture to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections. Concluded an agreement on cooperation related to the enhancement of the inspection system.Furthermore, on June 12, a joint research agreement was signed for the purpose of sero-epidemiological research and drug development, which is approaching from the elucidation of the pathophysiology of the new coronavirus infection.

There are two research items for joint research. The first is drug development based on the elucidation of the pathophysiology and serodynamics of new coronavirus infections.By clarifying the organ specificity of the new coronavirus, its reaction, and host-pathogen interaction, we will carry out research that can approach the true pathophysiology of the new coronavirus infection, aiming to develop vaccines and therapeutic agents.

The second is the development of antibody titer measurement systems and epidemiological research. We have developed a new antibody titer measurement system for the new coronavirus, and proceeded with pathological analysis by accumulating clinical information such as the dynamics of antibody titers over time starting from the onset date and the severity of the new antibody titers. Evaluate the clinical usefulness of the measurement system.

In addition, we aim to build a medical system that will not stagnate society by grasping the actual state of infection by optimizing and expanding the testing system for medical staff and patients.
