At the "Regional Informatization Award 2015" that contributes to regional revitalization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, "Regional revitalization by IT fishery" of Future University-Hakodate Marine IT Lab was selected as the grand prize of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications.Utilizing a satellite-based positioning system (GPS) and a buoy with a sensor, it visualizes the distribution of marine products and the marine environment. By sharing information with fishermen, it enables appropriate resource management and technology transfer.
In many cases, we depended on the intuition and experience of fishermen to understand the distribution of marine products and the marine environment, but by sharing information, everyone inherits the intuition and experience of veteran fishermen, and appropriate resource management is possible. It is now possible.The fishing industry in Hokkaido is suffering from the aging of fishermen, the shortage of successors, and the slump in fish prices, but it is attracting attention that the active use of IT technology has opened up new possibilities for sustainable coastal fishing.
The award ceremony will be held on March 3th at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto-ku, Tokyo, and a certificate of commendation will be handed out by Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Sanae Takaichi.
