Musashi University conducted a questionnaire survey of current students regarding online classes in the previous semester of 2020.This time, we have summarized the university's efforts on seven points out of the "contents that students want to improve" that we grasped from the questionnaire.
The questionnaire was conducted in early August 2020.Among them, "amount of assignments", "communication environment, etc.", "confirmation of receipt of submissions", "uniformity of class format", "difficulty in communicating with teachers", and "materials in the library" were pointed out by the students. We announced measures for the seven points of "I can't" and "I can't learn with other students".
In response to many requests from students to improve the "amount of assignments" in the form of distribution of materials and research on assignments, the university presented two countermeasures. The first is that one of the reasons why the amount of tasks seems to be large is that "what is done for" and "how long it takes to complete" are not shown. (2) When submitting an assignment, describe the purpose and standard required time as much as possible. ”The second is that although it is not directly related to the quantity of the assignment, the quality and timing of feedback are also the satisfaction of the assignment submission type class. Since it is thought that it will have a significant impact, "(2) Tell in advance how to give feedback on the submitted issues, including the timing."
In the questionnaire survey, "Insufficient internet environment (30.8%)", "Financial burden (23.8%)", "Insufficient / defective PC / software (19.2%)", "Insufficient knowledge about PC / software (19.0)" %) ”, So from the latter half of 2020, we have set up a self-study space using general classrooms and computer classrooms so that we can use the Wi-fi environment of the university, as well as PCs and mobile routers. We have decided to continue lending from the previous semester of 2020.
Regarding "I can't communicate with teachers / it's difficult to take" pointed out by 47.3% of students, face-to-face lessons will be held by notification system in the second semester of 2020, and "Library materials cannot be used" in 2020. From November 11nd, we will make it possible to use the library with a 2-hour replacement system, and as a response to students who cannot visit the library, we will send books that can be rented to home etc. with free shipping.
In addition, 44.5% of the respondents answered that they felt lonely because they could not study with other students, so from the second semester of 2020, in addition to the self-study space, the Faculty of Economics , The GS (Group Study) room of the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Sociology will be available by appointment, and face-to-face classes will be resumed at some seminars.
