The Center for Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, Kobe University has been selected as the university joint use collaboration base of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Space Science Institute. This is the third collaborative base of the Institute of Space Research after Kyoto University and Nagoya University.Kobe University will devote its scientific efforts to formulating a solar system exploration program and embodying a space science exploration roadmap that shows the progress of future space exploration plans.
The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science has been promoting joint usage and research with universities since 2010, with Kyoto University and Nagoya University as collaborative bases. This time, in order to further expand this, Kobe University was newly selected as a collaborative base.
The Center for Planetary Science was established in April 2007 as an academic center for planetary research held in Japan and overseas. It is a place where various research information is gathered and knowledge is accumulated by supporting human resource development and research activities that transcend the boundaries of universities and institutions. It plays a part in the space collision experiment of the asteroid explorer "Hayabusa4" and the exploration activity of the Venus probe "Akatsuki", and aims to become a base of solar system exploration science in collaboration with the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science.
