A research group led by Associate Professor Yoshihiro Sakita of the Graduate School of Education, Hokkaido University, and Professor Junro Hogaku of the Faculty of Education, Osaka Seikei University, discovered a photograph of women's soccer, which is considered to be the oldest in Japan. It is published in Oita Uenogaoka High School "Hundred Year History" in Oita Prefecture, and it shoots a women's soccer game held in 1916 (Taisho 5) during the predecessor of the school, Oita High School for Girls. ..
According to Osaka Seikei University, the photo shows a women's soccer match held at the playground of Oita High School for Girls, where there is a player who plays the role of a goalkeeper, and the crossbar is replaced by a string.Since many people are watching it, it seems that it was a game that attracted a lot of attention.
The research group found this picture while investigating the implementation of prewar women's soccer using 286 school histories of 422 high school girls nationwide.Until now, the oldest women's soccer photo taken at Marugame High School in Kagawa Prefecture, which was taken in 1919 and 1920 and published in the local Shikoku Shimbun in 2011, is three years older.
Since soccer was brought to Japan in the Meiji era, it has been mainly tackled by boys, but in the Taisho era it became clear that it was popular mainly in high school girls' schools.
Researchers from the Japan Football Association, Tokyo Women's College of Physical Education, Shikoku Gakuin University, and Hokuriku Gakuin University are also involved in this survey.
