On October 2016, 10, the Uchida Laboratory, Department of Information and Intelligent Engineering, Graduate School of Systems and Information Sciences, Kyushu University, commends companies and organizations that have contributed to the development of domestic businesses and industries through data analysis and utilization. Won the highest award.
The "Data Science Award" is sponsored by the "Data Scientist Association", in which corporate members of 62 companies and 8 organizations and about 4,900 general members (as of October 2016) participate, and the effectiveness of data analysis and utilization. It is held once a year for the purpose of widely enlightening the society and contributing to the improvement of the status of the data scientist who is the leader of the data scientist.
The 2016 award received a large number of applications from retail and distribution industries, financial industries, manufacturing industries, academic research institutes, etc. nationwide, and four finalist teams * were selected after a rigorous first screening.In the final judging, each team gave a presentation on the project, and based on the content, the highest award was decided by the votes of the judges and the general participants of the symposium.
Uchida Laboratory, which won the highest award, is the first in Japan to solve problems related to life phenomena by approaching biological and medical image data using the theory and technology of information science. "Informatics" has been launched, and while working on improving the research site where the collected image information was only visible, it has been successful in educating and training data analysis personnel.
The reasons for receiving the award are that faculty members and students are contributing to research while interacting and supporting collaborators who are required to develop analysis methods individually, and that they are actively collaborating with different fields. At the starting point of research, we will develop human resources with the qualities and abilities that are commonly required for data science in any field, by integrating the points that we are working on themes that can be used in various fields such as image analysis. The practice at a certain university was highly evaluated.
