A research group led by Professor Masahiro Jinzaki of the Department of Radiation Science, Keio University School of Medicine has developed the world's first full-body 320-row detector type standing / sitting CT (standing / sitting CT) with Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation as a partner. Announced that it succeeded in conducting clinical research from May 2017.

Since its introduction in the early 1970s, CT (Computed Tomography) has been used to diagnose many diseases.People basically work in a standing posture (standing position) or a sitting posture (sitting position), but since conventional CT can only take pictures in a lying posture, it is a condition that worsens when you get up, or in a standing / sitting position. I couldn't evaluate the functions that can only be done.

This time, the research group has realized a CT device that can take images in a standing or sitting position by placing a gantry (a donut-shaped mount) that was vertically placed in the conventional CT and moving it up and down.In particular, we have developed a tool for maintaining posture and a sitting position shooting aid that enables sitting position shooting, and assembled a smooth inspection flow. With 320 rows of surface detectors, one rotation can be taken with a maximum scan time of 0.275 seconds and a maximum width of 160 mm with a slice thickness of 0.5 mm.

This device enables whole-body imaging and soft tissue evaluation, which was not possible with the conventional method. In addition, because it uses a surface detector capable of high-speed rotation, it is possible to collect dynamic information on organs, spine, and joints in a standing or sitting position by continuously photographing the same site.

With the introduction of this CT, (XNUMX) early diagnosis of load-bearing conditions such as locomotor disorders, (XNUMX) diagnosis of pathological conditions revealed by abdominal pressure such as hernia and organ prolapse, and (XNUMX) breathing in a standing or sitting position. It is expected that it will be possible to evaluate many pathological conditions and functions such as function / hemodynamic evaluation, (XNUMX) preoperative evaluation of plastic reconstructive surgery, and (XNUMX) walking function.
