Professor Masako Meiwa of the Graduate School of Education, Kyoto University and Unicharm Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo) have jointly researched and developed a "toilet training" app based on the knowledge of developmental science. From May 2017, 5, free distribution started on Google Play and App store. The app features a mechanism for parents and children to communicate while feeling fun, and to increase the willingness of children to go to the bathroom.

For parents who are raising children, toilet training for their children often causes stress, such as scolding a failed child because of the desire to "remove diapers quickly".In addition, it is common for both parents and children to have a stressful training method, such as learning from the experience of failure and the experience of feeling unpleasant. Therefore, research started with the aim of developing an app that allows training while building attachments and relationships of trust between parents and children.

In the app, we have prepared a mechanism for characters to appear and support "children want to go to the bathroom" and to take cute pictures when sitting on the bathroom. In addition, we have implemented a function to record changes and growth of children and share the contents, and a function to set an alarm and invite the character to the toilet. As a result, in the questionnaire by the preceding monitor, the number of times to sit in the toilet exceeded 0% before using the app, but after using it, "2 times or more" exceeded 7%. ..Also, 3% of app users wanted to continue using it.

Professor Meiwa said, "I would like you to experience the growth of your child and your own growth as a parent by using this app. As your child grows up, you can share your memories while looking at the records saved in the app. It will be wonderful when the day comes when we can talk. "

Part of this research is supported by the "Center of Innovation (COI) Program", a research result development project of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and is "for a vibrant life." It was promoted by the business and research project of "Last 5X Innovation Center * 1".In addition, on June 2017, 6, a press conference showing the scientific basis is scheduled at the COI Center Research Promotion Organization of the University's Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration Headquarters.
