In 2018, the "Joint Degree Program" will be established at the Faculty of International Relations, Ritsumeikan University, where students who have completed the curriculum jointly established by Japanese universities with foreign universities will be awarded a degree. It is said that the "American University / Ritsumeikan University International Collaboration Department" is the first in Japan to open an inter-faculty joint degree program with an overseas university.

 According to Ritsumeikan University, it will be opened at Ritsumeikan University Kinugasa Campus in Kyoto City.The enrollment capacity is 20 from Ritsumeikan University and 5 from American University, for a total of 25 students, and a bachelor's degree in Global International Relations is awarded.Students study in Kyoto and Washington, the capital of the United States, where American University is located, for two years each.

 Ritsumeikan University established the first full-scale international faculty in western Japan in 1988, and has been making efforts to internationalize education and research.On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of International Relations, a new department was established in collaboration with American University.We have created a joint curriculum with the aim of fostering students who have both Western and Japanese perspectives and who can take leadership in future US-Japan relations and the international community.

 Tohiko Kimishima, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Ritsumeikan University, said, "In this joint degree program, we aim to develop human resources who will lead the world in the future in anticipation of a drastic change in the world order centered on Europe and the United States."
