It has been said that the camping experience has the effect of increasing productivity and creativity, but it was confirmed in a demonstration experiment that Snow Peak, which sells camping and outdoor equipment, with Professor Noriko Nagata of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Kwansei Gakuin University will increase creativity. The research results were presented at the 17th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Kansei Engineering.
According to Kwansei Gakuin University, Professor Nagata and his colleagues will set up tents in the lawn open space and small classrooms in the university, in which 2021 male students will work on creative tasks such as remote associative tests from October to November 10. I investigated whether the tent, a space unique to the camp, would enhance creativity.
There are three groups: an outdoor group that improves results when participants feel that the space is open, an indoor group that improves results when the space feels closed, and a normal group that does not have a clear relationship between the impression of the space and the results. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the outdoor group performed more outdoors than indoors, and the indoor group performed more indoors than outdoors.
Furthermore, there was a tendency for better results to be achieved by tackling the tasks in the indoor tent as a whole. This tendency was not related to the outdoor group and the indoor group.Professor Nagata and his colleagues think that the outdoor group feels the outdoors and nature while staying indoors when there is a tent, and the indoor group uses the tent to secure their own space indoors.
The results of this experiment seem to have scientifically elucidated that productivity is increased by the camping experience that has been known empirically so far.Professor Nagata and his colleagues would like to continue the demonstration experiment, provide a space that is close to the users, and propose new camping experiences.
