Tokyo Institute of Technology will build a new facility on the Ookayama Campus in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, where Japanese students and international students can interact.Aiming to open in October 2020 by allocating a large amount of donations from Chairman Hisao Taki of the restaurant search site "GourNavi" to the project cost at the Tokyo Institute of Technology OB.
According to Tokyo Institute of Technology, the new facility will have two floors above ground and two floors below ground, with a total floor area of approximately 2 square meters.Taking the name of Mr. and Mrs. Taki who donated, we named it "Hisao and Hirokotaki Plaza" and built it near the main entrance of the Ookayama campus.
We will set up an event space where various students including international students, faculty and staff gather, a space for group study, a space for collecting information on overseas universities and study abroad support, a student support space, etc., so that students can gather and interact with each other. ..The design is by architect Kengo Kuma, a professor at the University of Tokyo.
Tokyo Tech received a large amount of donations from Chairman Taki for the purpose of supporting students, and when he interviewed the students about the use of the donations, the concept was born where Japanese students and international students meet and interact with each other.
A press conference was held with the model of the new facility completed by President Mishima Yoshinao, Chairman Taki, and Professor Kuma.President Mishima mentioned that "interacting with various people, not just in specialized fields, has a positive effect on students," and Chairman Taki mentioned that he learned the importance of studying abroad on a young day and understanding different values. However, he said, "I want you to use it for the progress of international exchange at your alma mater."
