In response to the end of the target period of the national university management reform promotion project that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology supports national universities that are implementing advanced initiatives in management reform, after evaluating the efforts of each school, Tohoku University, Shiga University , Toyohashi University of Technology, Nagaoka University of Technology, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and Hiroshima University.
According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the national university management reform promotion project was implemented from 2018 to 2021, and 21 groups and a total of 29 schools were supported.This was evaluated on a 7-point scale from S to C by an expert panel consisting of seven academic experts.
As a result, 5 groups, including Tohoku University, were judged to have achieved their project objectives with an S grade, and 13 groups, including Osaka University, were judged to have achieved their project objectives with an A grade. Two groups, including Kobe University, received a B evaluation, and one group, Shizuoka University and Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, received a C evaluation because they were judged to have failed to achieve their business objectives.
Tohoku University, which received an S rating, made four areas of strength, such as materials science, into hubs and accelerated its internationalization through focused investment.Shiga University has made the transition from a liberal arts university to a university that integrates humanities and sciences, promoting data science education in each specialized field.Toyohashi University of Technology and Nagaoka University of Technology implemented organizational reforms in education and research, and effectively promoted regional contributions through the development of infrastructure to promote collaboration and human resource development.
Tokyo Medical and Dental University introduced a comprehensive human resource development system from undergraduates to independent researchers, and concentrated investment in priority research fields.Hiroshima University promoted cooperation with leading overseas universities and local companies, etc., in order to improve international recognition and establish a new model of cooperation for regional revitalization.
