A joint research group led by Takuya Uehara, a researcher at the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, and other researchers at NARO, the University of Tokyo, and the University of Tsukuba, has been researching the use of rearing residues containing intestinal bacteria from the intestinal bacteria of black horsefly larvae, a species of horseflies distributed around the world, as food. We have developed a technology that suppresses the unique odor by adding it to waste.

According to the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, the research group put 3 to 10 American black larvae in a container containing food waste and raised them for 7 days. I checked if there is

As a result, it was found that the amount of methyl disulfide, which is a representative of malodorous substances, and methyl trisulfide, which emits a sulfur smell, is greatly reduced in containers containing black black larvae. This is thought to be due to the presence of enzymes in the intestinal bacteria of American blackworms that metabolize and decompose substances that cause offensive odors.

Furthermore, it was found that the generation of putrefactive odors could be reduced up to 7/1 by adding food waste containing rearing residues containing intestinal bacteria of larvae.

One-third of the food produced in the world is discarded without being consumed, and 3 million tons of organic waste is generated annually in Japan.Efforts to reuse food waste have begun, but the problem has been that the food waste emits a strong odor due to the growth of various bacteria.

The odor-removing method using the larvae of the Black Wolverine does not burn fossil fuels, so it is environmentally friendly, and the raised larvae can be used as feed for farmed fish and chickens.

American black flies are said to be native to North and Central America, but are now distributed all over the world.Adults are 15 to 20 mm long, and larvae are 20 to 28 mm long.Never sting people or animals.
