A research team led by Taku Takeda, Director of the Institute of Oriental Medicine, Kinki University, found that about 30% of high school girls felt lonely due to the corona crisis, and that loneliness and ``second year high school'', ``time spent on the Internet'', ``psychological pain'', ``menstruation'', etc. found to be associated with the pre-syndrome.

According to Kinki University, in December 2021, with the cooperation of two high schools in Sendai City, the research team will target 12 female high school students with a psychological distress scale, a premenstrual syndrome symptom rating scale, a loneliness scale, and a new coronavirus. A study was conducted to assess the fear scale. At the time of the survey, normal face-to-face classes were held at the two high schools, and there were no major restrictions on social life.

Analyzing the responses of 907 people who responded to the survey with regular menstrual cycles, it was found that 29.0% were lonely, and 2% were sophomores in high school. The prevalence of severe psychological distress was 35.1%, reaching 8.2% among students with loneliness.

It was also clarified that factors related to loneliness included "second year of high school," "internet usage time," "psychological distress," and "premenstrual syndrome."

The second year of high school entered in April 2, at the beginning of the corona disaster, and the school was closed due to the declaration of a state of emergency during the period of major social changes, such as entering high school. The research team suspects that the formation of new human relationships is not going well and that they feel lonely.
