Tsuda College's basic policy is to respect the diversity of women from the 2025 entrance exam (entrance exam for students entering in April 2025), and allows transgender students (females based on their gender identity) who wish to study at a women's university to be eligible to take entrance exams at all faculties and graduate schools.

Tsuda College was founded in 1900 as Japan's first private institution of higher education for women, and has contributed greatly to social change by providing a place of learning for women whose doors had been closed to academics.Based on this tradition, acceptance of transgender students is based on the basic policy of recognizing diverse women (=Diversity/Inclusion), and it is possible to accept full-time students in all faculties and graduate schools who wish to study at a women's university and who are female on their family register or who identify themselves as female.

For the acceptance, the "Guidelines for Accepting Transgender Students" have been created and the system is in place. A "Committee for Transgender Students" will be organized to conduct interviews with applicants upon request, provide information about the university, and confirm eligibility for application (confirm that gender identity is female based on the application form) so that there will be no obstacles to student life from application to admission. If it is necessary to deal with the student's studies and student life after admission, the committee and the student will discuss it and cooperate and discuss with the related administrative departments and related organizations while strictly protecting personal information.

Regarding name and gender information, except in cases where a nickname cannot be used, such as when applying for an off-campus scholarship or insurance, a nickname can be used at the request of the applicant.Gender is not indicated on student ID cards, certificates, etc. (In some cases, such as application documents for educational staff licenses, or documents that require the use of the gender listed on the family register under the jurisdiction of governmental organizations, etc., it is not possible to indicate the gender you identify as.)In addition, the guidelines describe facilities such as changing rooms, toilets, student dormitories, health checkups, study abroad at partner universities, training camps in classes, and what to do when taking off-campus practical training.

Regarding the expression and fluctuation of gender identity, students will not be expelled from school even if their gender identity, family register, etc. changes after admission. If you are worried about your gender identity fluctuations or discomfort, or if you want to consult with someone, you can use the wellness center student counseling or gender specialist counseling. In addition, we will set up a consultation desk where not only students who are concerned but also students, faculty and staff who are not concerned can consult.

Tsuda College accepts transgender students, protects the rights of diverse women to learn, and creates an environment where they can learn together.
