A research group from Nagoya University Graduate School and Fujita Health University conducted a survey of adults and found that eating too much fish may affect health through the arsenic contained in fish.
Fish is rich in ingredients that support beauty and health, such as vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA), but it also contains a large amount of the element arsenic. There are two types of arsenic: those that are harmful to the human body and those that are harmless, and for a long time it was thought that the arsenic contained in fish was harmless. However, it was not fully understood how often fish is consumed and how arsenic affects health.
The research group conducted a study to examine the relationship between fish intake frequency, fasting blood arsenic concentration, and high blood pressure.A survey of 2,709 adults living in Japan found that those with higher arsenic levels in their blood had an increased risk of high blood pressure.Furthermore, the analysis found that people who eat fish at least once a day have higher arsenic levels in their blood, increasing their risk of developing high blood pressure.
It has been shown that it is possible.
As a countermeasure, the Nagoya University Graduate School is working on developing tableware (Doctor Tableware®️) that can absorb arsenic. However, fish contains plenty of other health-promoting ingredients in addition to arsenic, and it is still unclear how the effects of nutrients that are good for the body are related to the negative effects of arsenic. In the future, it is necessary to take a deeper look into dietary habits that can be expected to have positive effects on the body, while being concerned about the risks of health problems caused by consuming too much fish.
