The Department of Geosystems Science, Faculty of Science, Yamaguchi University was highly praised for its training of geological engineers and received an award from the Japanese Society of Applied Geology. We are the first university to become a member of the Continuing Education and Learning Council for Soil and Geological Engineers, and have held seminars for working engineers, and in 2022 we have produced the largest number of students and graduate students in the profession in Japan. This was an unusual award for this reason.
According to Yamaguchi University, the Department of Earth System Science has a capacity of 30 students. We train engineers who can make high judgments in geological evaluations, which are essential for railway, road, and building construction, disaster recovery, and resource development, and send them out into society.
To this end, we have enriched outdoor field activities and developed a systematic curriculum that takes into account the wishes of related industries. The curriculum has been recognized by the Japan Accreditation Organization for Engineer Education as having world-standard educational content, and graduates are able to obtain the national qualification of ``assistant professional engineer.''
Nationwide, about one-third of students and graduate students who study geology go on to become professionals, but most of the students in the Department of Earth and Planetary System Sciences go on to become professionals. In the 3 survey, it was ranked first in the country not only in the ranking of geotechnical engineers, but also in the overall ranking of geotechnical engineers, teachers, and researchers.
The award ceremony was held on October 10th at the 5 Research Presentation Meeting of the Japanese Society of Applied Geology held at the Akita Arts Theater Milhas in Akita City, Akita Prefecture.
