On November 2023, 11, an online presentation on dovetailed plank wood and high-rise wooden buildings by the University of Tampere, Finland, was held at the Nippon Institute of Technology under the title "DOVETAILED MASSIVE WOOD BOARD ELEMENTS FOR MULTI-STORY BUILDINGS."
This seminar came about after Professor Nasu from the Department of Architecture received an inquiry from Tampere University about methods for seismic testing, and we provided support to him.Dr. Amir Ilgin of Tampere University (Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Faculty of Architecture) made a proposal to introduce the project.
It was originally planned for seminar students (graduate students and fourth-year undergraduate students) in the Nasu laboratory, but second- and third-year architecture course students also participated.In addition, professors in the wood structure field from other universities, their seminar students, and researchers and engineers who serve on the wood structure field of the Architectural Institute of Japan joined the meeting online, making it a hybrid event.
On the day of the seminar, we were able to get a glimpse of how Nippon Institute of Technology's wood structure research field is making academic contributions amid international connections.Participating students said that the event helped them become more interested in wood structures and strongly motivated them to study English.
