Currently, Iwate University has four faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Agriculture.Of these, the Faculty of Science and Engineering will have eight courses from three departments (Department of Chemistry and Life Science and Engineering, Department of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering, and Department of Systems Innovation Engineering) as one department of the Department of Science and Engineering, and will be reorganized into eight courses different from the current ones.

　After the reorganization, the Department of Science and Technology in the Faculty of Science and Technology accepts students as candidates (tentatively assigned) for each course upon admission, provides a wide range of specialized basic education in the first year, and is officially assigned when they advance to the second year.If you meet the conditions, you can be assigned to a different course than when you enrolled, allowing you to choose your career path flexibly (there is a cap on the number of students assigned to each course).In addition, in parallel with the specialized education in each course, we will establish a sub-program system where students can receive education on mathematical data science, to develop human resources who can utilize data science knowledge to solve specialized technical problems.

　The Faculty of Agriculture will incorporate the existing life course of the Department of Chemistry and Life Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Science and Technology, with the keywords of "food," "life," and "environment."In addition, the Joint Department of Veterinary Medicine will be reorganized to create the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Joint Department of Veterinary Medicine.If the establishment is approved, it will be the first Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at a national university in Tohoku.This is the first time Iwate University has established a new faculty since the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 1977.

　The enrollment capacity for the Joint Veterinary Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine remains unchanged at 30 students.The Joint Department of Veterinary Medicine was established jointly with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in 2012, and learning continues as before, with a wide range of knowledge and techniques being systematically acquired from basics to applications using the inter-university joint education system with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. The point of education remains the same.In addition to Iwate University and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, other universities with joint veterinary departments include Hokkaido University and Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Gifu University and Tottori University, Yamaguchi University and Kagoshima University.
