Springer Nature, the University of Tokyo, and the University of Tokyo Future Vision Research Center will be co-hosting the SDGs Symposium 2024 “Planetary Health for Sustainability: Innovation for a Healthy Planet” on Tuesday, February 2, 27. ``Aiming for practical solutions'' will be held at the University of Tokyo's Yamagami Hall and online.

There are currently concerns about a serious crisis in planetary health. We fear that further disruption of the balance between the health of human society and the natural systems on which we depend will be catastrophic for ourselves and future generations.

SDGs Symposium 2024 will explore the intersection of planetary health and sustainability. We aim to conduct impactful and innovative sustainability-related research, focusing on research at the intersection of SDG3 (good health and well-being), SDG13 (climate change countermeasures), SDG15 (land abundance), and SDG2 (zero hunger). It will be a place for young researchers to offer their ideas and perspectives. We will invite prominent researchers from Japan and abroad who are active at the interface between planetary health and the SDGs, as well as students and young researchers, to discuss how their research explains these multifaceted phenomena and has a rich social impact. Actively discuss whether a fair solution can be created.

The symposium included keynote speeches by Tomoyoshi Watanabe (Professor, Graduate School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University, Director of Planetary Health Sciences) and Magdalena Skipper (Editor-in-Chief of Nature, Chief Editorial Advisor of Nature Portfolio), as well as Panel discussions and other events will be held.
