The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has adopted six new projects, including Kinki University and Tohoku University, for the 2019 International Nuclear Human Resources Development Initiative (subsidy for promotion of nuclear human resources development, etc.).After the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, young people continue to move away from nuclear power, so we will strategically develop human resources that meet the needs of society.

According to the Ministry of Education, the newly adopted universities are Kinki University's "enhancement of training systems for effective utilization of nuclear power reactors for education and training" and Tohoku University's "radioactive disposal utilizing large-scale hot laboratories of universities". "Human Resources Development Program for Material Separation Analysis and Nuclear Materials", "Nuclear Education Infrastructure Development Model Project by the Union Network of International Nuclear Human Resources Development Universities" of Tokyo Institute of Technology, "Supporting Nuclear Emergency Response and Radioactive Waste Treatment / Disposal" of Tsukuba University A total of 4 projects for "advanced human resource development projects".

The Wakasa Gulf Energy Research Center's "decommissioning training for nuclear engineers by acquiring cutting-edge technology and knowledge" and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' "experience-based training on safety design technology for light water reactor plants and fuels" were held by non-universities.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology solicited new projects from all over the country from May to June, and accepted a total of eight applications. As a result of examination at a meeting of outside experts, 5 of them were adopted.

Since the Fukushima nuclear accident, the number of young people who desire the nuclear industry is decreasing because new nuclear power plants have not been built in Japan and export prospects are uncertain. However, there is a sense of crisis in the industry as it is necessary to secure human resources for facility maintenance and decommissioning.
