Saitama Institute of Technology exhibited an automatic driving vehicle at the "VACUUM 2019 Vacuum Exhibition: A New Era Made with Vacuum" (sponsored by Japan Vacuum Industry Association, etc.) held at Pacifico Yokohama on September 9-4, 6.A trial ride event was also held.
As a special project of the organizer, the booth of "Next Generation Vehicles-Towards the Future-Contributing Vacuum Technology" will be titled "Vacuum and Next Generation Vehicles", and the Saitama Institute of Technology's autonomous driving experimental vehicle (SAIKO car) will be exhibited. We conducted a trial drive of the latest self-driving bus.
Saitama Institute of Technology's self-driving cars use Autoware *, which is becoming more widespread, and have enhanced the ability to detect (identify and classify) obstacles using AI.By deep learning (deep learning) of image information of riders and cameras, it is also possible to recognize the surrounding environment with AI and avoid obstacles when driving.
Saitama Institute of Technology participated in SIP (Strategic Innovation Creation Program) in October 2017 and started a public road demonstration experiment in Odaiba, Tokyo.Since December of the same year, we have been conducting the first demonstration experiment of autonomous driving on public roads in Saitama Prefecture in Fukaya City, our hometown, and we are also participating in various demonstration experiments all over the country to develop autonomous driving technology. In April 10, the "Autonomous Driving Technology Development Center" was established as a university-wide research organization for autonomous driving technology. While strengthening research and development for the practical application of autonomous driving, we are also developing autonomous driving buses.
