The Kyoto University Interdisciplinary Education and Research Promotion Center (hereinafter referred to as the Interdisciplinary Center) has been holding monthly cross-disciplinary exchange meetings for six years. On December 2019, 12, as a special edition, we will carry out a challenging project to surely gather one participant from 20 universities in Kyoto prefecture as "recreating" Kyoto, a mini-academic city "" bottom.
"I searched the websites of each university for faculty introduction sites, searched for faculty members who could participate, and contacted them. In many cases, I didn't know the contact information," said Ide, a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center.Unfortunately, the participation of all the universities could not be achieved, but 33 people including general participants were gathered and it was a great success, including active personnel such as faculty members, staff, students and graduate students of 121 universities.
On the day of the meeting, participants tried to find the person they wanted to talk to, relying on the materials with "reception number, name, what they wanted to talk to, my specialty (business content)". ..There was also a scene in which the participants robbed the moderator of the microphone and called out, "Are you the one who is number XX? I want to talk about XX!".
Associate Professor Miyano of the center, who was the inventor of the project, said about the background of the project, "In a project that invites a special guest, I felt that the guest was the main character and it was difficult for the participants to be the main characters." "I'm not thinking about gathering people from various universities to talk about one theme or make suggestions. However, I wanted them to realize that there is a <Mini Kyoto!> Only (laughs). This time, a large number of participants talked to acquaintances and cooperated in gathering all the universities, but this "purpose of purposelessness" is the purpose of many people. Maybe it was because it touched my heart. "
The following site describes the participants' impressions as well as the state of the day.
