Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization's integrated database room, biobank room, and sample / information distribution room have acquired ISO3 certification for the first time in Japan as a biobank.

 The award ceremony was held at Tohoku University in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. The certificate was handed over.

 According to Tohoku University, ISO27001 is an international standard for information security management systems that certifies that an organization maintains an appropriate security management system against the risks of information assets.At universities and research institutes, it is mainly acquired by IT departments.From December 3 to February 2015, the three rooms of the Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization underwent the first and second examinations of ISOQAR. The first certification as a domestic biobank has been decided because the samples and information managed by the three rooms are guaranteed in a well-balanced manner in terms of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

 Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization was established as a promotion organization for the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project, which the national government is promoting as a reconstruction project for the Great East Japan Earthquake. Therefore, we collect genomic information, biological samples, medical information, etc.Furthermore, in order to protect personal information, we are taking appropriate measures such as anonymization and providing it to the outside, while also promoting the development of human resources who will carry out research and analysis research.
