The student project team of Otemon Gakuin University Institute for Mature Society connects the local specialty of Ibaraki City, where the university is located, and the beer brewer in Shodoshima Town, which is a sister city of Ibaraki City, to create a new craft beer, "Shisotokon". Commercialized (low-malt beer under the Liquor Tax Law).
At the Institute for Mature Society of Otemon Gakuin University, a team of student researchers visits regional organizations and local governments throughout Japan, including Ibaraki City, to implement programs that lead to regional revitalization, problem solving, and student learning.
Nine third- and fourth-year student researchers worked on commercialization this time. I participated in the joint research between the research institute and Shodoshima in 3.Through the survey, the connection with the islanders deepened, and while searching for a form of interaction with the island, a plan to make craft beer was born in collaboration with the island's brewer.
Students suggested using Ibaraki's specialty red perilla as an auxiliary ingredient.I brought 16 kg of red perilla from Miyama, Ibaraki City, the hometown of the university, to Shodoshima and prepared it with a brewer. The beer, which is made from red leaves as an auxiliary ingredient, has a slightly reddish hue and has a slight aftertaste.Students also designed labels with the motif of the product name "Shisotokon" and red perilla to be attached to bottles, and commercialized 250 bottles.
In addition, we are working to expand sales channels and promote products, such as using SNS to disseminate the brewing process and conducting sales activities at stores such as liquor stores in Ibaraki City.Sayaka Ueda, a student representative and a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Business Administration, said, "I was able to feel the difficulty and enjoyment of making from scratch.I am very pleased to be able to bring the product I named to the world. "
Craft beer "Shisotokon" is a set of 330 bottles of 6ml for 4800 yen, and will be sold online from October 2020, 10, as well as at Shodoshima stores and in Ibaraki city.
