Kanazawa University has signed an agreement with YKK Co., Ltd., a major building materials company, to promote gender equality for the further success of female researchers and engineers.

According to YKK, the cooperation of the agreement is
■ Development of diversity research environment in the Hokuriku region
■ Improving the research capabilities of female researchers and engineers and fostering leaders through them
■ Building a foundation to promote the promotion of female researchers and engineers to higher positions
-3 items.

In the Hokuriku region, various manufacturing industries and science universities are gathered, and the female employment rate is about 70%, which is the highest level in the whole country. However, there are few female researchers and engineers who are in charge of manufacturing, and the lack of careers of women is cited as a factor.

In 2013, Kanazawa University established the Hokuriku Female Researcher Network, which consists of female researchers from universities, public testing and research institutes, and companies. We are deepening cooperation with companies.
YKK's founder's birthplace is Toyama Prefecture, and since 70 years ago, YKK has set up a production base in Toyama Prefecture and has made it a quasi-home. Since 2014, some of the head office functions such as personnel, accounting, and finance have been transferred to Kurobe City, Toyama Prefecture.

Participating in the Hokuriku Female Researcher Network from the first year, we will take this agreement as an opportunity to promote career building in the manufacturing field and further focus on training female researchers and engineers.
