Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization and Yakult Honsha (President Takashige Negishi, Tokyo) of lactic acid bacteria beverages have decided to jointly participate in a large-scale epidemiological study with tens of thousands of people to prove the health benefits of lactic acid bacteria intake.

According to Tohoku University, the survey will visit seven regional support centers in the prefecture, including Kesennuma City and Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, and send questionnaires to those who participate in the second long-term health follow-up survey of the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project. Implement by method. The maximum number of people surveyed is 7.
In the survey, the subjects answered the products they regularly use from a wide variety of lactic acid bacteria beverages and fermented milk, and their intake status. The health information obtained from the long-term health follow-up survey will be integrated and analyzed to clarify the health effects of lactic acid bacteria intake.

Lactic acid bacteria intake is said to be effective in adjusting the bacterial balance in the intestine, but so far it has been verified by surveys focusing on specific diseases such as lifestyle-related diseases including cancer. As a result, data suggesting prevention of recurrence and reduction of the risk of onset are also obtained.
However, in the case of healthy subjects, it is difficult to clarify the long-term preventive effect by conventional surveys, and a large-scale long-term follow-up survey is required.

The Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization hopes that this survey and analysis will strengthen the scientific support for the health effects of lactic acid bacteria and find effects on diseases and physiological function declines that have not been clarified so far.
