At Kagawa University, with a donation from Nippon Electric Co., Ltd. (NEC), the "Resilience Science Research Division", which conducts research on disaster mitigation science * in wide-area natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis, has been established in Shikoku crisis management education and research.・ Installed in the Regional Cooperation Promotion Organization and will start research from January 2018.

"Disaster mitigation science" is a comprehensive science aiming at damage reduction and quick recovery and reconstruction, and "Disaster mitigation science research division" was established for the purpose of preparing for wide-area natural disasters such as the Nankai Trough giant earthquake.Kagawa University's Shikoku Crisis Management Education, Research, and Regional Collaboration Promotion Organization will combine the knowledge of research and development with advanced ICT such as NEC's AI technology to build a disaster-resistant community through industry-academia-government collaboration.

Research and development of disaster mitigation science, which integrates disaster preparedness, disaster response, recovery / reconstruction / resilience, and human resource development, will be an advanced initiative in Japan. The installation period is from January 2018, 1 to March 1, 2021 (3 years and 31 months).

The research content is to develop disaster mitigation science research utilizing real-time information and AI / visualization technology, such as seismic response analysis, tsunami simulation, tsunami risk assessment and countermeasure research, targeting the entire country centered on the Shikoku region. In addition, we will promote the strengthening of human resources development with practical skills and know-how to promote disaster mitigation science, and contribute to the advancement of disaster mitigation science such as earthquakes and tsunamis and regional resilience.

Currently, in Japan, in addition to frequent earthquake disasters such as the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in March 2011 and the Kumamoto Earthquake that occurred in April 3, wide-area natural disasters such as the Nankai Trough giant earthquake and the earthquake directly beneath the capital are occurring. Amid concerns about the occurrence of disasters, efforts to mitigate disasters such as damage reduction and reconstruction / restoration in the event of a disaster are becoming more and more important.

In the future, we will expand the scope of research globally, strengthen the development of human resources with practical skills to promote disaster mitigation science, which is becoming more important, and aim to revitalize industries and regions.
