Professor Ryoichi Sakata of the Department of Animal Applications, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Azabu University (Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Keitaro Umezu and Sakurako Kaneko, who are in the first year of the graduate school, and Marie Horikoshi, who is in the third year of the Department of Applied Animal Science, Participated in the "International Ham and Sausage Quality Competition" sponsored by the German Agricultural Association.The participating students conducted a guest screening with Professor Sakata, who was invited as a judge.The competition was held for two days on March 1th and 3th, 2018 in Bad Salzuflen, Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia), and food products were exhibited from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and other countries.

 The "International Ham and Sausage Quality Competition" is sponsored by the German Agricultural Society (established in 4, headquartered in Frankfurt), which is said to be one of the four major organizations in the German agriculture and food industry.It has a long history in the world regarding food quality evaluation and is said to be the highest level of competition.In addition, a highly prestigious contest in which as many as three full marks of food are exhibited every year from all over the world, and the deliciousness and high quality of food are internationally proven.

 Azabu University has been involved in the operation of the competition as a venue for the Japanese competition since 2012.As a result, students began to learn about competitions and have been participating in the German competition since 2014 as trainees.Students participate in the judging as part of the exchange between Japan and Germany, and the judging committee plays the role of listening to explanations from the judges and responding in English when asked for opinions on Japanese products.

 After participating in the competition, Professor Sakata and the students conducted fieldwork.In Frankfurt, I experienced cultural exchange between Japan and Germany, such as visiting the meat publishing company "Deutscher Fachverlag GmbH", which has a history of nearly 100 years.
