Tokyo Polytechnic University Drone Science Research Group will start registered training organization activities as "AUTC Tokyo Polytechnic University Drone Science Research Group Branch", which is a branch school of "Advanced Technology Unmanned Aircraft Training Center (AUTC)".

At Tokyo Polytechnic University, we have been working on experiments and research such as managing electrical equipment and confirming the state of vegetation in the agricultural industry using images taken by drones. In order to improve these efforts, we have established the AUTC Tokyo Polytechnic University Drone Science Research Group Branch.

In the future, the Drone Science Research Group, as the "AUTC Tokyo Polytechnic University Drone Science Research Group Branch", will hold a course that exempts the practical test when acquiring a national license (skill certificate). In accordance with the purpose of the establishment of the study group, the target is limited to current students and related parties in principle. The training area will be the vast grounds of the Atsugi Campus and the interior of the seven-story gymnasium. This environment can be said to be the best place to learn drone operation skills.

Based on the founding spirit of Tokyo Polytechnic University, which aims to "train photographic practitioners and researchers to meet the needs of the times, and at the same time to improve and develop photographic techniques in general society," Japan's first photographic Founded in 1923 as a specialized higher education institution. The Drone Science Research Group is exactly in line with the university's founding spirit of contributing to the development of society through the use of cutting-edge technology.

Now that we have celebrated the 100th anniversary of our founding, drones have come to be positioned in society as an important technology in a wide variety of fields. While inheriting the founding spirit, Tokyo Polytechnic University develops human resources who can contribute to society in the fields of photography using drone technology, image processing (photogrammetry) using SfM, surveying, 3D construction and modeling. For the purpose, we will develop the activities of this study group. In addition, this study group will support students to improve their skills as researchers with the aim of acquiring an "unmanned aerial vehicle operator skill certificate (second class)" through lectures and examinations completed at campus facilities.
