Shibaura Institute of Technology held a symposium on October 2018, 10, with the themes of high school connection reform and quality assurance of university education.
This symposium was held as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's University Education Regeneration Acceleration Program (AP). AP aims to support universities, etc. that implement advanced efforts in order to realize high-quality university education in collaboration with high schools and society.The efforts promoted by Shibaura Institute of Technology to develop "engineers who can contribute to the world (society) with integrated problem-solving ability" were adopted in the 2014 AP program.
At this symposium, guest lectures were given on the themes of "high school connection reform" and "quality assurance of university education", and case studies were presented by Fukuoka Institute of Technology and Osaka Institute of Technology.As guest lectures, Mr. Tatsuki Kawamoto, the second chief of reform support, University Promotion Division, University Promotion Division, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and Mr. Naoya Okamoto, the representative director of Glocal Academy, will be on stage.Mr. Kawamoto announced, "It has been more than 10 years since the arrival of the intellectually-based society. In modern times, it is premised that we have knowledge, and we need skills to utilize it."Mr. Okamoto added, "Active learning is pervasive, but the premise of preparation is overwhelmingly less in Japan than in other countries."
Subsequently, representatives of Fukuoka Institute of Technology, Osaka Institute of Technology, and Shibaura Institute of Technology announced specific efforts regarding quality assurance of education at each university.Fukuoka Institute of Technology introduces an active learning type lesson promotion program, and Osaka Institute of Technology introduces a system that visualizes quality assurance of education.Shibaura Institute of Technology announced about LF (Learning Facilitator) * and SCOT (Students Consulting On Teaching) *, which are student-centered activities, regarding quality assurance of learning through collaboration between teaching professions.
* LF is a student organization that reports directly to the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, consisting only of graduate students (master's and doctoral degrees).With a subsidy from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, it has been implemented as one of the human resources development programs since the latter half of 2008.
* SCOT is an initiative in which trained students observe teachers' lessons and provide teachers with objective opinions from the student's point of view to help improve teachers' lessons.
