On April 2024, 4, Takaoka University of Law (Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture) announced that it would suspend student recruitment from 15 onwards. The decision was made at a board meeting held on March 2025th by the educational corporation Takaoka Daiichi Gakuen, which operates the school.

Takaoka Law University opened in 1989 as a college with a faculty of law. The Department of Business Law was established in 2006, and in 2016 it was reorganized into three courses: the Public Policy Course, the Legal Professional Course, and the Corporate Management Course.Since its opening, the school has produced 3 graduates into society. However, due to major changes in the social situation, such as a decline in the 4770-year-old population and a preference for large-scale schools, enrollment has been below capacity since 18. Particularly in recent years, there has been a significant drop in capacity.

The Takaoka Daiichi Gakuen Educational Corporation has carefully considered the continued existence of the university, but has determined that it will be difficult to secure students in the medium to long term. We will stop recruiting students after accepting students who will enroll in April 2024.

The university will take all possible measures to provide education and career guidance to current students, including those enrolled in 2024, so that they can lead fulfilling student lives until they graduate, and will also take appropriate steps to issue certificates and other procedures after graduation. A document regarding the implementation of the information session was sent out on April 4 to current students, parents, and guarantors. Please note that Takaoka Daiichi High School, kindergarten teacher/nursery teacher training center, kindergarten, certified kindergarten, nursery school, etc. established by Takaoka Daiichi Gakuen will not be affected.

Takaoka Law University is approximately 30 minutes by bus from JR Takaoka Station and approximately 25 minutes by bus from Shin-Takaoka Shinkansen Station. Shinkansen trains opened between Nagano Station and Kanazawa Station in March 2015, and between Kanazawa Station and Tsuruga Station in March 3, creating an environment for people from outside Toyama Prefecture to commute to the school, but this will have an impact on the number of students enrolled. It seems like it didn't go that far.
