A disco survey of human resources information revealed that the spread of the new coronavirus has shown signs of a decline in Japanese companies' willingness to hire foreign students. With the progress of globalization, the number of foreign students hired has continued to increase, but it seems that companies have turned to a cautious stance amid uncertainties about the future economic situation.

The survey was conducted in December 2020 targeting major companies nationwide via the Internet, and the responses of 12 companies were aggregated.According to the report, 494% of the companies hired foreign students in 2020, including plans.Compared to the previous year's survey, the hiring record was a slight increase of 35.4 points.

On the other hand, 2021% of the companies are expected to be hired in 39.2.It decreased by 50.2 points from 11% in the previous year's survey.Disco suspects that the motivation for hiring companies has declined because the outlook for the Japanese economy has become uncertain due to the spread of the new corona infection.

By employee size, the larger the company, the higher the hiring record and prospect, but even for large companies with 1,000 or more employees, the hiring prospect in 2021 was 50.0%, down 4.2 points from the previous year.By industry, the non-manufacturing industry has a higher motivation to hire than the manufacturing industry, and IT / software-related matters are conspicuous.

As for the breakdown of foreign students by educational background, the liberal arts undergraduate graduates accounted for the top with 49.4%, followed by the completion of the master's course in the sciences and the undergraduates in the sciences. The number of human resources in the doctoral program is less than 1% in both humanities and science, and the situation is severe.
