Okayama University is a human resources development education base for "cutting-edge AI research and development aimed at solving global x local medical problems" in the "Human Resources Development Industry-Academia Collaborative Project for Accelerating AI Research and Development in the Health and Medical Field" of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Was applied for and adopted. In collaboration with a large number of companies and local governments, along with a total of 12 schools including Tohoku University (main school) and Hokkaido University (cooperative school), we aim to train medical personnel who can promote AI research and development in industry, academia and government, and to form their bases.
With the accelerating super-aging population, medical resources are concentrated in urban areas, and depopulation of medical care in rural areas has become a major issue. There is an urgent need for medical solutions that utilize AI, which is one of the solutions to make up for the shortage of human resources, but in the field of health care, there is a shortage of practical human resources to lead AI research and development.
In this project, we will build the first AI human resources development system for the medical field in Japan and develop human resources who will lead practical solutions to medical problems using AI.The trained human resources are expected to play an active role in a wide range of healthcare fields such as medical care in medical institutions, home medical care, business, and public health at home and abroad.
Another goal is to produce medical AI personnel who can tackle extremely difficult medical issues such as the new coronavirus infection. It provides online and offline hybrid education, and is expected to expand internationally as an effective new education system in the with corona era.
All 12 collaborative schools have built a three-stage program that connects classroom lectures to practice. In the first stage, lectures will be given online on the basics of machine learning and programming languages, as well as radiation image analysis as medical data analysis. The second stage is a tutorial format.Practical hands-on training to process actual medical data online and discussion training to understand the connection between lectures and practice based on actual medical AI utilization examples. In the third stage, we will observe the medical field, extract problems in the field using design thinking, and discuss the optimal AI intervention method in a workshop format.
In the project, at Okayama University, not only the undergraduate and graduate schools of medical science, but also engineering and humanities researchers at the university, AI / machine learning related research organizations, companies in the AI / security related technology field, and university researchers. Organizations etc. participate.Five universities in China and Shikoku (Tokushima University, Kagawa University, Yamaguchi University, Tottori University, Kawasaki Medical University) are scheduled to participate as cooperating schools, and it is expected that a new framework will be formed.
