Chiba University will participate in an international project for open access to academic papers (* 1) promoted by the US non-profit organization CHOR and the Japan Science and Technology Agency. This is the first such project to be implemented outside the United States, and Chiba University will be the first to participate in the university.
According to the Chiba University Library, this project is a six-month trial aimed at promoting open access to academic papers, and is in step with the efforts being made by CHOR in the United States.During the project period, we will investigate the effectiveness of the service and its impact on researchers, academic societies, and institutional repositories that store intellectual products produced by research institutes within the university.Chiba University is currently the only participant in the university, and from the standpoint of an institutional repository operator, we will strive to efficiently grasp and disseminate academic papers.
CHOR was founded with the participation of US commercial scholarly publishers and academic publishing departments. The academic papers subsidized by the US government are published on the websites of each publisher, and CHORUS, a service that provides the information in a database, is operated.
The number of academic papers is increasing rapidly all over the world, and the subscription price of academic journals, which are the mediators of academic papers, is rising, making it difficult to continue subscriptions at universities. For this reason, open access to academic papers has emerged as an issue.
