Kyoto University Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. and Tokio Marine & Nichido Risk Consulting Co., Ltd. (TRC) announced that they will jointly carry out research on Typhoon Jebi in 2018.

 In recent years, a powerful typhoon has landed and approached the Japanese archipelago, causing a lot of damage. In FY2018, Typhoon Jebi No. 21 and No. 24 landed and caused damage to more than 5 buildings. Ranked 1th (according to the General Insurance Association of Japan).In addition, many typhoons landed in 6, causing great damage.

 While there is concern that such damage will continue to spread due to climate change, Tokio Marine & Nichido and TRC have deep insights into the damage caused by Typhoon Jebi in 2018 through many years of research in the field of wind damage. We have decided to outsource the research to the Kyoto University Disaster Prevention Research Institute and consider using it for future product / service development and advanced risk management.

 The research period is until September 2020, 9.In the joint research, in addition to reproducing the wind speed of each point by typhoon No. 30 using the advanced model of the Kyoto University Disaster Prevention Research Institute, analysis of building damage by comparing the wind speed with the insurance accident data of Tokio Marine & Nichido, We will proceed with the analysis of the characteristics of the damage caused by Typhoon No. 21.
