"ENGINE" is a regional creative human resources development program in collaboration with Shinshu University, Toyama University, and Kanazawa University.
I have heard the voices of the three participating universities, and the third Kanazawa University has set out more unique measures while focusing on "sightseeing."Program leader Professor Tetsuya Sagawa says.

A program that greatly expands the scope of regional creation

The "ENGINE Program" is a collaborative program of Shinshu University, Toyama University, and Kanazawa University, which was selected as the "University-based Regional Creation Human Resources Development Education Program Construction Project (COC + R)" promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Following the "Local Revitalization Project (COC)" in 2013 and the "Regional Revitalization Promotion Project (COC +) by the Regional Revitalization University (COC +)" from 2015, regional revitalization will be promoted based on the university. It will be a project to promote.Professor Tetsuya Sagawa of Kanazawa University, who spoke to us this time, has been deeply involved with the COC.

"Kanazawa University has had a community creation school since 2008. At that time, there were few universities that were working on the theme of the community, and I started it while studying at multiple universities."

Then, COC found a connection between the university and the region, COC + sought to retain human resources in Ishikawa Prefecture, and COC + R decided to develop human resources through collaboration between the three universities.

"I received a proposal from Shinshu University to work across prefectures. I wish I could share the strengths of each. Originally, students from Nagano Prefecture came as they were, but they come and go. It was hard. ”Now I can go to Nagano city in less than an hour. This Koshi prefecture project has the great merit of having the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

For the students themselves, "What is the area?"

However, Professor Sagawa says that the connection with the community is not "your own" for the important students.

"Until I entered university, I was studying hard while disconnecting from the community. I wish I had done what the teacher gave me. However, the ENGINE program has various problems in the community. It gives you the ability to find and solve problems, but many students do not understand that they live in the area. Studying according to what the teacher gives them is interesting and motivated. not"

I do not recognize the place where I live as a "region".That is Professor Sagawa's dissatisfaction. In addition, although many students aspire to be civil servants, they are only looking at the exams and are not sure what they want to do after entering.

"I think there is potential, but it wouldn't be fun to become a civil servant without thinking about anything. Instead, I want you to go out into the area. Go to a place that suits your interests or just look at the area. "

Strangely, Professor Yasuto Hayashi in the Shinshu University edition said, "At university, you need to go to study by yourself," and in the Toyama University edition, Professor Noriyasu Oguma said, "You should go out into the town more." Overlap. The problems and problem-solving skills that I learned in this way will be a great weapon for my third year internship.

What I want is a student who has a clear idea of what he wants to learn

Since 2020, Kanazawa University has been implementing a KUGS special entrance examination that comprehensively evaluates abilities, qualities, and motivations through the "KUGS High School Connection Program."After attending a program provided by the university (actual lectures, webinars, etc.), an assignment report is submitted, and students who meet certain conditions such as reaching certain standards are eligible to apply for the KUGS special entrance examination.

"It's a new form of admission office (AO)," explains Professor Sagawa. The abilities and qualities required are to have clear goals for the future, to act independently, and to have a strong desire to realize one's dreams. "In the KUGS special entrance examination of the Faculty of Regional Creation, we want to gather candidates who have a clear idea of what they want to study and what they want to aim for at university."

Indeed, it is very close to the student image required by the ENGINE program.Instead of allocating universities based on deviation values as in the past, it shows the way for students with individuality to go to universities with individuality. It can be said that it is an entrance examination method that has an affinity with the ENGINE program.
