Until now, when using information systems, many organizations have used user authentication with user IDs and passwords as a standard method. In addition, user authentication has been performed using some other element in addition to the user ID and password, limited to some applications and systems that handle important information.

Since 2010, Doshisha University has also used matrix authentication using a random number table printed on the back of student ID cards and employee ID cards for grade entry by faculty members and changes in students' reported addresses. However, due to the frequent occurrence of security incidents caused by the leakage of IDs and passwords, we have decided to introduce multi-factor authentication for all systems on campus so that the system can be used safely and securely.

In addition to the user ID and password, the user is required to (3) select an image (icon) that he/she has decided in advance for "imaging matrix authentication," and (XNUMX) install a dedicated application on his/her smartphone and request permission for system use authentication. Use the system safely and securely by using one of the following three methods: "push notification authentication" and (XNUMX) "FIDO authentication" using a camera or fingerprint reader attached to a PC, tablet, smartphone, etc. be able to.

In recent years, when the use of ICT has become indispensable for various activities at universities, we aim to help everyone to work on learning, education and research activities with peace of mind by avoiding damage from ransomware and account hijacking. , evaluated that strengthening the authentication function would be useful.
