Chubu University is a near-future fuel cell vehicle in collaboration with Itochu Ceratech Co., Ltd. (Seto City), Yamamoto Box Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Seto City), Maruwai Yokoi Iron Works (Seto City), and Aichi Industrial Science and Technology Center. Announced that it has developed a catalyst suitable for the production of hydrogen, which is the fuel for (FCV).

This result was obtained from the "Near Future Hydrogen Energy Society Formation Technology Development Project", one of the "Knowledge Hub Aichi Priority Research Projects" in Aichi Prefecture.Research and development was carried out mainly by two graduates of the Department of Applied Chemistry of the same university who work for the company with which they collaborated.

The "Near Future Hydrogen Energy Society Formation Technology Development Project" utilizes the new energy demonstration research area of Knowledge Hub Aichi to develop basic technologies such as hydrogen production and utilization. It also aims to promote technological development that contributes to the formation of a hydrogen energy society in the near future by implementing application development of high-efficiency energy components such as next-generation LEDs.

Of the eight research themes undertaken by this project, in "Development of reforming catalysts for highly durable hydrogen production," industry, academia, and government (five institutions in total), including Chubu University in the region, will be engaged in fuel cells after 8. In anticipation of the full-scale spread of vehicles, we have been working on the development of new catalysts that can be used for "on-site hydrogen stations" that produce hydrogen by reforming natural gas on the spot. This time, we have developed a spherical catalyst that has both high durability and excellent hydrogen production capacity by utilizing the ceramic technology of the local industry in Aichi prefecture.

In this project, companies in Aichi Prefecture will work on the development of new equipment in a shared manner, and by promoting commercialization in collaboration, it is expected that the accumulation of regional technology will be improved.
