On October 2018, 10, the symposium "Exploring the Future Image of Universities in Shizuoka Prefecture" was held by the "Fuji no Kuni Area / University Consortium" organized by higher education institutions in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Currently, we are facing various social changes such as the declining 18-year-old population, the decline of the local economy, and the rapid progress of globalization, and university education is also required to respond to these changes.Therefore, a symposium was held with the presidents of universities in Shizuoka prefecture who belong to the "Fuji no Kuni Area / University Consortium".We explored the future direction of higher education institutions in Shizuoka Prefecture.
The first part of the symposium was a keynote speech "The Future of University Education" by President Kyosuke Nagata of the University of Tsukuba.From the position of Chairman of the Junior High School, President Nagata will discuss the global society that science and technology will change, the major issues in Japan that will have a decisive impact on the way universities should be, the future image of universities, and examples of university collaboration. From the standpoint of the President of the University of Tsukuba, he introduced the efforts of the University of Tsukuba, such as the dailyization of internationality, recurrent education-collaboration with society, and collaboration with the community.
In the panel discussion held under the theme of "The Ideal Way of Higher Education in Shizuoka Prefecture" in the second part, in addition to President Nagata University of Tsukuba, President Kiyoshi Ishii of Shizuoka University, President Hiroshi Kito of Shizuoka Prefectural University, and Shizuoka University of Science and Technology President Hiroshi Noguchi will be on stage as a panelist.From the standpoints of national universities, public universities, and private universities, discussions were held on current initiatives and future plans.President Noguchi introduced the efforts with Fukuroi City, including the regional studies course conducted by Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology, and the efforts of students' student formula competitions, bird-human contests, NHK Robocon, and so on.
The "Fuji no Kuni Area / University Consortium" is an organization that has been reorganized from the "University Network Shizuoka", which is an inter-university collaboration organization in Shizuoka Prefecture.We will deepen mutual cooperation between higher education institutions in Shizuoka Prefecture, form networks with government, industry, non-profit corporations, etc., and contribute to the improvement of educational and research capabilities of higher education institutions in the prefecture and the development of local communities. That is the purpose. Established in 2014, it received public interest certification from Shizuoka Prefecture in 2015 and became a public interest incorporated association.
